Abstract
O Convento de Jesus de Setúbal foi alvo de escavações arqueológicas em duas campanhas distintas: 2005‑2006 (interior) e 2007‑2008 (exterior). Exumou‑se então uma pequena colecção de cerâmicas importadas e uma grande quantidade de peças de produção portuguesa: faianças, cerâmicas vidradas e cerâmica comum. Proporcionalmente, a cerâmica nacional apresenta quantidades muito superiores às das peças de proveniência exógena. No que respeita às peças importadas, reconheceram‑se exemplares de porcelana chinesa, bem como fragmentos de majólica provenientes de diversas oficinas. Este artigo tem por objectivo estudar essas cerâmicas exógenas, claramente minoritárias, utilizando como contraponto os dados relativos à faiança portuguesa e os relatos produzidos por membros da comunidade monástica sobre a história e os quotidianos do Convento de Jesus.
The Convent of Jesus of Setúbal has undergone archaeological excavations in two different campaigns: 2005‑‑2006 (on the inside) and 2007‑2008 (on the outside). It was then exhumed a small collection of imported ceramics and a large amount of pottery produced in Portugal: faience, glazed wares and common wares. Proportionally, the Portuguese pieces far outnumber the ones with a foreign provenance. Concerning imported wares, examples of Chinese porcelain and majolica fragments from different workshops were recognized. This article aims to study these ceramics clearly minority, exogenous pieces, using as a counterpoint the data on Portuguese faience and the chronicles produced by members of the monastic community about the history and daily life within the Convent of Jesus.
