Arqueologia Industrial em Lisboa: ausência de evidência?

No âmbito da investigação para a realização do inventário do património arqueológico industrial da cidade de Lisboa, datável do período compreendido entre a segunda metade do século XVIII e a primeira metade do século XX, os resultados quanto à identificação de sítios atribuíveis à sociedade industrial lisbonense foram surpreendentemente poucos e, assim, não representativos da dimensão que a indústria teve na capital.
A pesquisa realizada na base de dados Endovélico e nos processos de arqueologia, bem como o contacto direto com diversas empresas de arqueologia a trabalhar na cidade, revela que as evidências materiais deste período da sociedade portuguesa são ainda dificilmente interpretadas in situ e inventariadas. Ademais, nas bases de dados ficam ainda encobertas sob uma inadequada cronologia contemporânea, uma definição de carácter histórico, que está a dificultar o mapeamento das alterações que foram feitas na cidade ao longo de cerca de 200 anos.
Num momento em que o volume de intervenções em Lisboa leva à destruição acelerada da camada estratigráfica da Lisboa industrial, presente tanto abaixo como acima da superfície, este artigo pretende discutir a aparente ausência de evidência da Lisboa Industrial em termos de registo arqueológico, propondo estratégias de intervenção e levantamento que permitam compreender este período da história da cidade e assegurar o registo e inventário das suas evidências.

During research for the inventory of the industrial archaeological heritage of the city of Lisbon, dating between circa the second half of the 18th century and the first half of the 20th century, the results regarding the identification of sites attributable to the industrial society of Lisbon were surprisingly few and therefore not representative of the impact industry had in the capital.
Research carried out in the Endovélico database and in the archaeological reports, as well as the direct contact with several archaeology companies working in the city, reveals that the material evidence from this period of Portuguese society is still difficult to register and interpret in situ. In addition, in the databases these sites are still hidden under a contemporary chronology, a definition of historical character, that is making it difficult to map the changes that were made in the city during circa 200 years.
At a time when the volume of interventions in Lisbon leads to the fast destruction of this industrial stratigraphic layer of Lisbon, still present both below and above the surface, this article intends to discuss the apparent lack of evidence of industrial Lisbon in terms of archaeological record, proposing strategies of intervention and documentation which allow for the understanding of this period of the history of the city and ensure the recording and inventory of its evidences.
