Abstract

The systematic temperature measurements on a dense grid of shallow slim holes in the surroundings of Ribeira Grande town, S. Miguel Island, lead to the identification of thermal positive anomalies. Part of the thermal anomalies corresponds probably to convective heat flow zones, some of them already know and some are new discoveries. It has been shown that this cheap and rudimentary technique can be an important tool for the selection of target sites in the exploration stages as the drilling of thermal gradient and exploration of deep holes, thus turning possible the risk reduction on the management of geothermal projects.
