title = "An Experimental Framework for Networked Control Systems",
abstract = "A distributed control architecture for a single-axis elevator is presented and experimentally validated. Sensing, computation, and actuation are separated across a MATLAB realtime server and a Python client communicating mainly over TCP, with UDP and hybrid modes evaluated for comparison. Uniform resampling and a two-state Kalman filter mitigate networkinduced variability, while a three-loop cascade controller ensures stable motion control. A client-side PID controller illustrates the flexible user-programmable mode. Real-time experiments quantify the impact of jitter, delay, and sampling period, establishing a minimum safe sampling period of Ts=0.10 s. Key contributions include a reproducible LAN-based NCS testbed, an open clientside control mode enabling students to implement their own controllers, and the first experimental characterisation of timing constraints and safe sampling limits for this architecture.",
