Abstract
The project “Almada Velha: Valuing the Heritage of the Urban Historical Centre” focuses on the medieval and modern occupation of this city. The aim is to develop research on archaeological contexts excavated in recent decades, through the study of municipal archaeological collections. It also seeks to give continuity to the public archaeology service, within the scope of public and private works. Archaeological interventions aimed at answering questions of a scientific and heritage nature are also projected. The aim is therefore to systematise the knowledge acquired and to launch new lines of study about the evolution of Almada’s town planning, social structure and daily life in those times. All the work is accompanied by the development of initiatives to disseminate knowledge to the community, seeking to make it an active participant in the valorisation and protection of heritage.
