Abstract

Digital journalism has experienced disparate and immeasurable transformations over the last decade. The impact of the Internet of Things (IoT) and high technologies was such that led to a whole reconfiguration of the processes of news content production, distribution and consumption. A shift which has been named hi-tech journalism. Media and audience have witnessed a paradigm change in which journalism becomes automated (robot or algorithmic journalism), personalized (virtual assistants, smart speakers, chatbots) and more immersive (immersive journalism). Even it takes visual journalism into the sky (drone journalism). Through this chapter it will be explored and explained the potential opportunities of the latest technologies in journalism practices, but also the threats, risks and challenges posed by these new devices and software.
