Abstract
O artigo examina a Filosofia Moral de Eric Weil, publicada em 1961, contrastando-a com a tradição moderna e contemporânea dominante na filosofia moral. Enquanto a filosofia moderna frequentemente adota uma abordagem fragmentada e abstrata, focada na fundamentação da moral e na moralidade do juízo subjetivo, Weil apresenta uma perspetiva inclusiva e sistematicamente distinta. Ele integra as contribuições de Kant, Hegel e Aristóteles, atribuindo a cada um um papel essencial: Kant com o conceito de moral, Hegel com o conteúdo da moral e Aristóteles com a vida moral. No entanto, Weil rompe com a sequência cronológica tradicional, optando por uma ordem lógica em que o conceito de vida moral, ligado à ética aristotélica, assume uma posição central e culminante. Nesse contexto, Weil valoriza os conceitos de virtude e eudemonismo como elementos cruciais de unificação na filosofia moral, bem como a noção original de uma inventividade moral. Diferentemente das abordagens contemporâneas que ignoram ou minimizam a importância da vida moral, considerando-a anacrónica ou conformista, Weil a coloca como um princípio fundamental que confere coerência à filosofia moral. O artigo, portanto, sublinha a originalidade da abordagem de Weil, que reorganiza as tradições filosóficas numa nova ordem lógica, destacando a importância operativa da inventividade moral para a prossecução de uma vida moral.
The article examines Eric Weil’s Philosophie morale, published in 1961, contrasting it with the dominant
modern and contemporary tradition in moral philosophy. While modern philosophy often adopts a fragmented and
abstract approach, focused on the grounding of morality and the morality of subjective judgment, Weil presents an
inclusive and systematically distinctive perspective. He integrates the contributions of Kant, Hegel and Aristotle,
assigning each an essential role: Kant with the concept of morality, Hegel with the content of morality and Aristotle
with the moral life. However, Weil breaks with the traditional chronological sequence, opting for a logical order in
which the concept of moral life, linked to Aristotelian ethics, assumes a central and culminating position. In this
context, Weil values the concepts of virtue and eudemonism as crucial unifying elements in moral philosophy, as well
as the singular idea of a moral inventiveness. Unlike contemporary approaches that ignore or minimize the importance
of moral life, considering it anachronistic or conformist, Weil places it as a fundamental principle that gives coherence
to moral philosophy. The article therefore highlights the originality of Weil’s approach, which reorganizes philosophical
traditions into a new logical order, highlighting the operative importance of moral inventiveness for achieving a true
