Abstract
This study compares the symbolism of space in fantasy worlds, using the criticism available in the nineties when fantasy was starting to be studied in foreign universities. It also anticipates the influence of Jungian psychology in the creation of modern fantasy, which was only recently proved in the case of J. R. R. Tolkien
