Abstract

In this paper, we will review and describe the steps taken so far to develop the Auditory Atlas of the City of Évora, part of the PASEV Project - Patrimonialization of Évora's Soundscape (1540 - 1910). One of the aims of this project is to map as many historical sound events as possible in the city of Évora from 1540 (creation of Évora's Archbishopric) to 1910 (beginning of Republic in Portugal). In this context, we are developing a repository to support the compilation of audio and visual documents being collected by the project partners, with the aim of enabling the visitor to experience these documents as he immerses himself in the city. We aim to develop several interactive tools to facilitate different experiences of these artifacts, from thematic itineraries to explore historical musical scenarios through to various virtual platforms, such as apps (e.g. for smartphones), which may be enriched by the visitor in loco in the city.In this paper, we present the current status of an initial technological infrastructure for supporting the evolving responsive map based interactive platform of the city of Évora. We present its development, functionality and the results of an evaluation procedure.
