Abstract

This article intends to define the meaning of the context in the perspective of Linguistics of Genres, considering that the choice of certain verbal and/or non verbal forms presented in a text is imposed by aspects concerning the textual genre. Our concern is to show mainly that the argumentative strategies chosen by the producer of the text in order to sustain his thesis are imposed by the textual genre where the text is always integrated. In order to prove our hypothesis we analyze a sample of a partypolitical billboard that circulated in Portugal during the elections for the Prime Minister,in 2002.
