Abstract

This article examines the development of a ‘Portuguese Garden’ at Holland Park, Kensington, and its relationship with Holland House and its inhabitants. Created sometime between 1802 and 1812 by the Italian poet Serafino Bonaiuti, the ‘Portuguese Garden’ represents an important landmark in the third Lord Holland’s relations with Portugal and provides tangible evidence of his interest in the country.
