Abstract
This article aims to analyze the strategic and diplomatic relations established between Turkey and Israel since the foudation of the Jewish state in 1948. Until the recent past, the relations between
the two sates were cooperative and characterized by a strategic partnership. They were also seen as some kind of continuation of the Western interests in the region. However, in the last years
the relations suffered a growing deterioration and its an open question if they reached the point of calling into question the strategic relationship, and even the precarious balance of power in the Middle East. In addition, the purpose is also to foresee what may be the future implications of the current foreign policy of Turkey, a candidate for EU membership, when the Union seeks to gain consistency as an international actor through the implementation of the new instruments under the Treaty of Lisbon.
