Abstract
The extensive fueros or municipal customs and usages of the Ribacoa Leonese area – that was incorporated in the Kingdom of Portugal after the Alcañices Treaty of 1297 – deliver much data on the locality’s daily life, including norms related to warfare. Our intent is to portray the mobilization of military resources within the municipalities of Castelo Bom, Alfaiates, Castelo Melhor and Castelo Rodrigo, between the late 12th and the beginning of the 13th centuries. This was a period when the war against the Islamic powers was progressively becoming farther yet it kept constituting a significant pilar of the regional economy.
