Abstract
The present study of the Mariale Alc. 149 from the alcobacense fund of BNP (National Library of Portugal), seeks to show how text and ornament contribute to the affirmation of the identity of a textual community from Alcobaça, inseparable from the aesthetic enjoyment offered by the book. In this particular codex, being a collection of texts, the illumination, using the color palette, artistic techniques and grammar of forms considered to be the identity characteristics of the alcobacense scriptorium, assumes itself as a factor of unit. On the other hand, the relations that can be established with other contemporary codices reinforce the signs of circulation of manuscripts and the international dimension of the Alcobaça scriptorium.
