Abstract
The essay presents a careful reading of the prefaces to the first and second volumes of Human, All Too Human, in order to provide an interpretation that unifies the notions of ‘great health’,‘great liberation’ and ‘doctrine of health’. On the one hand it will try to bring light to the relationship that is established in the first preface between the ‘great health’ and the crucial possibility in Nietzsche’s thought of a ‘great liberation’, as well as its connection to the global context of his philosophical project. On the other hand, it will try to clarify Nietzsche’s expressed intention in the second preface to provide a ‘doctrine of health’ to the ‘most spiritualnatures of the rising generation’, distinguishing it from traditional philosophical therapies andrelating it to Nietzsche’s eventual role in promoting the ‘great health’ among his readers.
