Abstract

The role that the horizon of faith plays in Nietzsche’s philosophy assumes a relevant meaning, both for the interpretation of his thought in the context of the secularization and the notion of nihilism, and for the contextualization of his critique of metaphysics in the history of modern philosophy. This is particularly evident when we consider, for example, the urge for a new fidelity to the earth, in Thus spoke Zarathustra, or Nietzsche’s critique to the religious and moral presuppositions in Human, All Too Human. This essay aims to show how the study of the role that the problematic of faith plays in Nietzsche provides a new perspective of interpretation both of the statute of Nietzsche’s philosophical practice and of the presuppositions that lead to the notion of “free spirit”.
