Abstract
In 1697 the Santo António de Tana frigate departed from Goa to rescue the fortress of St. Jesus which was surrounded by Omani Arabs for several months, ending up to wreck near the fort. Between 1976 and 1980 a team of the Institute of Nautical Archaeology (INA) and the National Museum of Kenya led by Robin Piercy and Hamo Sassoon identified a significant portion of the hull of the ship as well as more than 7000 artefacts related to its operation and on board life commercial activity. In this article we aim to study the pewter, copper alloy
and wood artefacts related to the kitchen and the food on board the ship and also feeding on Portuguese ships (15th-17th centuries).
