Abstract

The exact analytic solutions for the classical motion of a system described by a Morse potential are presented here. The solutions for bound and unbound situations are analysed and their asymptotic behaviours are obtained. These solutions describe the evolution of a diatomic system in a final state after an electronic transition has occurred. They can be applied to several spectroscopic situations in which vibronic excitation is produced. These results are applied to several examples of negative molecular-ion formation obtained by electron transfer in collisions with alkali atoms.
