A primeira biblioteca pública de Santarém foi construída pela Câmara Municipal e inaugurada no âmbito da comemoração do centenário de Camões, em 1880. O espólio da Biblioteca Camões,
basicamente de ideário republicano, foi obtido através de doações. Este artigo pretende historiar a única biblioteca da cidade até 1926.
The first public library in Santarém was built by the City
Council and inaugurated as part of the commmemoration of the
centenary of Camões, in 1880. The collection of the Camões Library,
basically based on republican ideas, was obtained through donations.
