A 2D object-based model of the lens-shaped skarns of São Pedro das Águias deposit (Tabuaço, northern Portugal)

Abstract

The aim of the present study is to generate a 2D object-based model of the skarn lithologies of the São Pedro das Águias ore deposit (Tabuaço, northern Portugal). Since those lithologies take the form of lens-shaped skarns, and are numerous, thin, conditioned to the deposit structure, and recognized only in the drill-holes, modelling them is a challenge. To overcome these issues, a 2D automatic modelling algorithm was used. This algorithm is computed for individual cross- sections and generates the skarn geobodies by a random selection of successive admissible connections between the lens-shaped skarns intersected by the drill-holes, so long as they are in accordance with the geological structure.
