Abstract
Nas primeiras décadas do século XX, Paris era encarada como símbolo absoluto da metrópole moderna, pelas experiências de urbanidade que proporcionava: do intenso desenvolvimento do consumo, à animação dos amplos espaços públicos, passando pela produção de imagens de elegância e moda e pela exaltação do entretenimento, da arte e da cultura. Os estilos de vida, as práticas e os comportamentos dos seus habitantes na vivência do quotidiano desta cidade, em que se cruzavam diferentes discursos e utopias - eram tidos, para a burguesia lisboeta, como a representação, por excelência, do bom gosto e da distinção, o que os tornava modelos de inspiração e inquirição. A produção e vivência das práticas musicais, no quotidiano Lisboeta, no contexto de um "estilo de vida" alegadamente Parisiense, citadino e moderno, reproduz modelos naturalizados de performance de género (Butler; Foucault), exacerbando-os e incentivando, deste modo, a manutenção de mecanismos de poder e relações de dominação (Bordieu). Nesta comunicação, pretendo inquirir aspectos sociais e políticos da importação e apropriação, pela sociedade lisboeta, de modelos "parisieneses" de vivência da música em particular, e dos espetáculos em geral, assim como dos seus usos na produção de identidades, estatutos, comportamentos e desempenhos de género. Irei considerar aspetos estruturantes do quotidiano da época visada, de modo integrado, como as dinâmicas do consumo, a imprensa, a publicidade e o marketing, as políticas culturais, o entretenimento, os espetáculos e outros eventos públicos e semi-privados, examinando a incidências das políticas de género, na transformação e naturalização de estilos de vida urbana em ínicios do século XX.
In the first decades of the twentieth century, Paris was considered as an absolute symbol of the modern metropolis, dur to the experiences of urbanity it provided, raging form the intensification of consumption behaviors, the liveliness of the large public spaces and the dissemination of images of elegance and fashion, to the strong dynamics in entertainment, art and culture. The practices, behaviors and styles of this city's daily life - that intersected different discourses and utopias - were taken as the representation, par excellence, of good taste and disctinction, becoming a model of inspiration and inquiry to the Lisbon bourgeoisie. The production and experience of the musical practices in Lisbon's everyday life thus mirrors and allegedlly Parisian lifestyle, modern and urban, reproducing naturalized models of gender performance (cf. Butler; Foucault). Moreover, exacerbating and encouraging them, thus maintaining the established power and domination mechanisms (Bourdieu). In this communication I will address sociocultural and political appropriation phenomena of Parisian paradigms of music reception and experience and, broadly, of cultural entertainment by Lisbon bourgeoisie. I investigate these behaviours in the process of production of prestige and performances of identity and gender. In this examination of the impact of gender politics in the transforation and naturlization of urban life styles in the early twentieth century, I will consider structural aspects of everyday life, including media, advertising and marketing factors, cultural politics, consumption dynamics, entertainment, shows and other public and semi-private events.
