short CV / research interests:
Zeljko Petrovski is born in Belgrade, Serbia and graduated from University of Belgrade in Organic Chemistry in 1999. He obtained PhD in Chemistry at Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biologica (ITQB) -Universidade Nova de Lisboa (UNL), Oeiras, Portugal in 2004 working with Prof. Carlos C. Romão on synthesis of molybdenum and iron compounds as epoxidation catalysts and cytostatics. After that as postdoctoral associate from 2005-2005 he worked on Pauson-Khand reaction at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) and on supercritical carbon dioxide and phase equilibria from 2008-2009 at UNL. During this period he gained expertise in synthesis of ionic liquids and as auxiliary researcher at UNL from 2009-2013started working also on synthesis of pure ionic liquids containing active pharmaceutical ingredients (IL-APIs) and their investigation as novel drug delivery tool. He continued working on synthesis of pure ionic liquids and small molecule synthesis in company Solchemar Ldt in 2013-2014 and as a researcher on a project after that. Latter he stayed at Universidade Federal de Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) as postdoctoral investigator (2015-2016) to gain experience on synthesis of Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs). Currently as auxiliary investigator at FCT-UNL he continues to work on IL-APIs as drug delivery tool and their further biomedical investigations as well as on porous materials, synthesis and catalysis. One of his most important discoveries is reversal of antibiotic resistance by IL-APIs particularly in case of gram-negative bacteria and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. He collaborates in his reasearch with various people in Portugal and abroad: Prof. Luís Branco, Dr. Miguel Santos, Prof. Mário Diniz, Prof. Pedro V Batista, Dr. Inês Matos, Dr. Ana Nunes (UNL), Prof. Miguel Viveiro (IHTM), Dr. Alice Martins (IP Leiria), Ricardo Ferraz (IPP Porto), Prof. Raoni Schroeder (UF, Rio de Janeiro), Prof. Pierre Mothe Esteves (UF, Rio de Janeiro) and many others.
