Research interests

Susana Münch Miranda specializes in Economic and Social History, with a focus on economic and institutional processes underlying state formation and empire building in the early modern period. Her current research interests focus on early modern public finance, fiscal institutions and transnational business networks.

Personal information

Susana Münch Miranda studied History at the Nova University of Lisbon (BA 1987; MA 1993; PhD 2007) and lectured at the History Department and Nova University (1996-2014). Between 2014 and 2016 she was a senior researcher at Leiden University, where she worked on the project Challenging Monopolis, Building Global Empires in the Early Modern Period.  

Upon her return to Lisbon, Susana lectured at Católica-Lisbon School of Business and Management (2016-2018) and worked as a member of the research project Sovereign Debt and Private Credit in Portugal (1668-1797), hosted by CSG/GHES, Lisbon School of Economics and Managemet (2019-2021), before returning to Nova University of Lisbon.
