Personal profile

Research interests

I am a conservation scientist of synthetic polymers with a PhD focused on the conservation of polyurethane (PUR). I have 7 years of experience in conservation research on contemporary art and plastic-based objects and my research has been focused on the ageing of synthetic polymers and their stabilisation. In the last five years, I have gained an independent research profile in the study of PUR and rubber degradation. In the last year, I was responsible for lecturing part of the curriculum plan of "Polymers in Conservation" (FCT NOVA) and worked in the provision of conservation and restoration services for collections such as Caixa Geral de Depósitos, Museu Berardo, Museu Benfica - Cosme Damião and Fundação Serralves. I am currently team leader of one scientific task in a funded research project (coordinating 6 members). More recently, I integrated the Conservation and Restoration Department (FCT NOVA) as an Invited Assistant Professor. I also am one of the founders of NEON Art Conservation, the first company based in Lisbon dedicated to the conservation of modern and contemporary materials.
