Personal information

I am currently an Assistant Researcher at the Medical Parasitology Unit at IHMT NOVA and a member of the Vector Transmitted Diseases (VBD) group at the Tropical Health and Tropical Medicine Research Center (GHTM).

I have a degree in Biology (University of Aveiro). In 2009 at NOVA, I completed my PhD in Biomedical Sciences (Specialization in Parasitology). Between 2009 and 2014, I was an FCT postdoctoral fellow at IHMT NOVA. In 2014, I was awarded a two-year Marie Skłodowska-Curie scholarship at the Technical University of Applied Sciences in Wildau (TH Wildau, Germany). In 2017, I returned to IHMT NOVA as an Assistant Researcher under the Investigator FCT program. So far, I have participated in 14 projects, 5 international (UE / FP6, UE / FP7, BMBF, FCT), two as Principal Investigator and two international networks.

Since 2009, I have been teaching undergraduate and graduate courses (Master and Doctorate) at national and international universities. I have established a network of collaborations in institutions in different countries (Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Angola, Armenia, Malaysia, Morocco, South Africa, Tunisia, Uzbekistan).

My main research topics are human and canine leishamniasis with emphasis on drug discovery and drug susceptibility studies with synthetic and natural compounds, host-parasite interactions and molecular diagnostics and epidemiology.

I am accepting PhD students.
