Raquel Amaro is Assistant Professor with tenure at NOVA University of Lisbon (NOVA FCSH) and Researcher at the Linguistics Research Center of NOVA University of Lisbon (CLUNL), since 2015. She completed her PhD in Computational Linguistics at the University of Lisbon in 2010 and worked as a researcher (from junior to full member) at the Center of Linguistics of the University of Lisbon from 1999 to 2015. She served on the Board of Directors of CLUNL from 2017 to 2025, during which time the research unit progressed from “Very Good” to “Excellent“, and she is the coordinator of the Lexicology, Lexicography and Terminology group at CLUNL since 2025. She is currently the coordinator of the Horizon project iRead4Skills (2023-2026) and also CLUNL team leader and researcher at the Horizon project MultiPod (2024-2027). She participated in 30 projects in Corpus Linguistics, Computational Lexical Semantics, Lexicography and Language Technologies, of which she coordinated 9. She has been actively involved in international research networks, including COST Actions - Keystone (2015-2019), Distant Reading (2017-2022) and UniDive (2022-2026) - as well as the Heritage Language Consortium (2019-2025). At NOVA FCSH, she teaches courses in Computational Linguistics, Lexicology and Lexicography and Specialized Corpus at the undergraduate, MA and PhD levels, and supervises several PhD and MA projects. She was a visiting lecturer at Polytechnic University of Macao (China) and Pedagogic University of Maputo (Mozambique) and, from 2020 to 2023, she was an visiting lecturer and Board Member of the PhD program on Linguistics and Digital Humanities at Palacký University Olomouc (Czech Republic). She has also collaborated with the industry as Computational Linguist in parsing and grammar checking development projects. She serves on the scientific committees of several journals and is regular member of national and international conference scientific committees, as well as juries for academic degrees and research reports.
