Pedro Pestana Soares is a doctoral student in Anthropology at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, where he researches Sufi-inspired Islamic movements in the outskirts of Lisbon. In 2016, he completed his Masters in Anthropology at ISCTE-IUL, with an ethnography of Angolan Catholic missions that host children accused of witchcraft. Previously, as a member of Númena - Research Centre in Social Sciences and Humanities, he worked on minority religions and religious discrimination in Portugal, and integrated the multidisciplinary team of "The Pilgrimage Project: A Study of Motivations and Experiences in Sacred Spaces", undertaking fieldwork in several Christian and Neopagan pilgrimage sites around Europe.
