Besides his academic life he worked, in several occasions, as a consultant for REN (Rede Eléctrica Nacional, S.A.) developing and maintaining software for Optimization and Design of Power Systems Networks. From 1975 to 1985 he worked fulltime for EDP (the Portuguese national power utility) as a systems engineer developing software for power systems management.
Current research interests include: Combinatorial Optimization and Discrete Mathematics. Optimization of Power Systems Networks
