Personal information

Marta Carmo is a PhD candidate at NOVA School of Law, and she is preparing her dissertation under the supervision of Professors Helena Pereira de Melo and Rita Calçada Pires. She is a researcher at CEDIS and the NOVA Tax Research Lab and conducts her research in the area of ​​Tax Law and Human Rights, focusing specially on taxpayers’ fundamental rights. 

She holds a degree in Law from NOVA School of Law and a Master in Law and Management from NOVA School of Law and NOVA School of Business and Economics. She was the winner of the Paula Escarameia Prize (2011/2012) in the area of ​​Public International Law for her report on “Modern Maritime Piracy”, following which, together with a Fulbright grant, she completed an LL.M. in International Legal Studies from New York University, School of Law. 

She is also a lawyer at Banco BPI, S.A., having been an associate at RPBA law firm.
