Personal information

Mariana Portas de Freitas is a PhD Candidate Integrated Researcher in Historical Musicology (History of Music) at the Institute of Ethnomusicology Music and Dance (INET-MD/NOVA), as well as at the «Caravelas» Luso-Brazilian History of Music Studies Team at the Centre for Studies in Sociology Aesthetics of Music (CESEM/NOVA), both at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the Lisbon Universidade Nova (FCSH/NOVA). She has developed her PhD project under the guidance of Rui Vieira Nery. She holds an Advanced Studies Diploma and a Masters’ degree in Historical Musicology from the same University, as well as a Licenciateship degree in Law from the Catholic University of Lisbon (CATÓLICA-LISBON).

She works at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, as International Affairs Officer of the Gulbenkian Culture Program, where she has gathered experience from projects supported by the Foundation in the field of preservation of cultural heritage of Portuguese influence around the world. She was coordinator of Coro Gulbenkian and editorial coordinator of several editorial projects of the Foundation, under the direction of Rui Vieira Nery.
