In the last years, the research has been mainly focused on interactive rehabilitation systems using Virtual Reality. She is the PI and the co-Founder of VR4NeuroPain. VR4NeuroPain is a renowned project, which has been award with several distinctive prizes such as Glintt at Fundação Champalimaud, SantaCasa Challenge and Acredita Portugal. Moreover, in order to allow real-time collection of physiological parameters for the integrated systems using VR, nowadays she is integrating thin sensors using circuit-printing methodologies on flexible and biocompatible materials. Micaela Fonseca is Physics Engineer and obtained her PhD in Nuclear Physics (FCT/UNL, 2011) and became expert in sensors, detecting data, nuclear physics accelerators and ion beam techniques and applied them in the analysis of objects of biomedical interest (dentine fluorine uptake, osteoporosis) and cultural interest. After PhD, she was a researcher at Physics Department at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, Germany and GSI. Since 2011, Micaela has been an invited Assistant Professor at FCT/UNL for Biomedical Engineering and Physics Engineering. Micaela was Assistant Professor at IADE/UE and co-founded Games for Good, the greatest game jam for social responsibility at Portugal. At IADE innovation teams, Micaela participated in the organization of two new degrees: Games and Apps Development and Creative Tech. As IADE pedagogical practices coordinator she was responsible for several projects where creativity was in full synergy with technology. Micaela Fonseca is a member of LibPhys research center, invited Assistant Professor at Universidade Nova de Lisboa and invited researcher at HEI_Lab. Published 51 (journal articles, proceedings and books sections). Supervised/co-Supervised 14 MSc dissertations. Participated in 6 international projects (funding by: FCT, IAEA and GSI) and 5 PhD jury.
