Maria VianaSchtine Pereirais a PhD student at the Department of Portuguese Studies of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities atUniversidade Nova de Lisboa (FCSH-UNL). She is also a member of the Institutode Estudos de Literatura e Tradição / Institute for the Study of Literature and Tradition (IELT –NOVA FCSH). She was a research assistant at Centro de Humanidades / Centre for the Humanities(CHAM – NOVA FCSH). She is a doctoral grant recipient from Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (the Portuguese public science funding agency). ID: 2021.04539.BD. She holds a Master’s Degree in Philosophy from the Instituto de Estudos Brasileiros / Institute of Brazilian Studiesat Universidade de São Paulo (IEB – USP), Brazil, in the program Culturas e Identidades Brasileiras / Brazilian Cultures and Identities (2013). She has a Bachelor of Arts’ Degree in French and Portuguese Languages and Literatures, awarded by the Department of Modern Letters of the Faculty of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences at Universidade de São Paulo (FFLCH – USP). She has beena visiting researcher at the Département des Sciences du Langage of the Université de Rouen, France (1998). She has had short-term lecturing experiences in Brazil, at Universidade de São Paulo (classes on the History of the Book and on Publishing Books for Children). She has also been a keynote or guest speaker at the same university, the largest in the Portuguese speaking world. She took courses and workshops inperforming arts at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brazil, and has acted as an actress and playwright in several theater companies in São Paulo. She worked for two decades as an editor at several publishing houses in São Paulo:Saraiva, Atica, Scpione, FTD and DCL. She is the author of textbooks and books aimed at the training of teachers, as well as children's books and youth literature. She has translatedseveral literary works and textbooks from French to Portuguese. She has authored books approved by Brazilian national programs such as Plano Nacional do Livro Didático / National Textbook Plan (PNLD-MEC) and Programa Nacional Biblioteca da Escola / National School Library Program (PNBE-MEC).
With a background in performing arts, Brazilian, Portuguese and French literature and the study of cultural policies, public reading and communication, through her research work she has been exploring the following themes: Brazilian literature, Portuguese literature, French literature, book publishing history and the social history of children’s books.
