Marcia Dutra de Barcellos is a renowned academic and researcher who joined the Information Management School at NOVA University Lisbon as Principal Investigator in January 2025. She is a Guest Senior Postdoc Researcher (Volunteer) of the Department of Agricultural Economics - Division of Agri-food Marketing and Chain Management at Ghent University. She is an Associate Professor (tenured) at the Postgraduate Programme in Management at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil.
She has a long term experience in coordinating and collaborating with different projects financed by Brazilian and International organizations (e.g CNPq, EMBRAPA, CAPES, FAPERGS, World Bank, GAIN, FP6, Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe). Besides her international academic experience in teaching, supervising students (more than 100), and coordinating courses at different levels (in Brazil, Denmark, France, Spain, Germany, Argentina and China, for example), she holds managerial and knowledge dissemination skills (via consultancy and extension projects, lectures, seminars and participation in executive boards.
Her research focuses on key areas such as marketing, consumer behavior, innovation, and sustainability, particularly within the agri-food sector. Her recent work relates to the themes of digitalization, eco-innovations and alternative proteins, exploring both consumer and corporate perspectives. She has contributed to high-impact journals like Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management, Appetite, Journal of Business Research, and Industrial Marketing Management.
Marcia holds a Bachelor's Degree in Veterinary Medicine and advanced degrees (Master’s and PhD) in Agribusiness from CEPAN at UFRGS, a leading institution in Latin America. Part of her doctoral research was carried out at the Marketing and Consumer Behavior Group at Wageningen University and Research Center (Netherlands) and at the School of Rural Sciences and Agriculture at the University of New England (Australia). She has also held postdoctoral positions and served as a Visiting Professor at the MAPP Centre for Research on Value Creation in the Food Sector at Aarhus University, Denmark.
