Research interests
Lucilia's research interests are centred in the field of oxygen sensing and cardiorespiratory diseases. The main aim of her research project is to contribute to identify more effective antihypertensive drugs for the treatment of hypertension in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and investigate underlying mechanisms of systemic effects associated with OSA, as well as its modulation by anti-hypertensive drugs. Our group are also interested in evaluate new therapeutic tools to treat hypertension in this kind of patients. For that, we are using a rat experimental model of hypertension induced by a paradigm of chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH) that simulates OSA and also the data attained from a large sample of patients with OSA.
