Luís Silva holds a B.A. (4 years) in Social Anthropology (1995), a M.Phil. in Anthropology: Heritage and Identities (2000), and a Ph.D. in Anthropology (2007) awarded by the ISCTE - University Institute of Lisbon, Portugal. Currently, he is a Senior Research Fellow at the CRIA - Centre for Research in Anthropology (CRIA NOVA FCSH), under the FCT Scientific Employment Stimulus 2017 Individual programme (FCT CEEC). He co-coordinates CRIA¿s Research Group on Environment, Sustainability and Ethnography since 2020. He has published 5 books, 31 peer-reviewed journal articles and 13 book chapters, most of which as single author. He has coedited 1 book and 1 journal issue. He has received 4 research grants from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and another from the former Centre for Studies of Social Anthropology (CEAS - ISCTE). He has a continued experience of research from competitively funded projects since 1993. He took part in 2 international research projects and 15 national ones, 3 of which as Principal Investigator (PI). He is also Co-PI of a 3-year research project approved for funding by the FCT that will commence in March 2023. He currently supervises one Ph.D. student. He has carried out peer review for 11 international journals and 4 national ones. He has evaluated research project proposals for the European Commission (H2020-SC5-CIRC-SCC-NBS-2017), the European Research Council (ERC-2020-STG) and other funding institutions (Latvian Science Council - in 2012; Austrian Science Fund - in 2018). He has also evaluated Erasmus+ Youth projects for the European Commission (ERASMUS-YOUTH-2021-PCOOP-ENGO; ERASMUS-YOUTH-2021-CB; ERASMUS-YOUTH-2022-CB; ERASMUS-2023-CSC-OG-FPA; ERASMUS-2023-CSC-OG-SGA). He has conducted research in mainland Portugal, the Azores archipelago, and the Spanish region of Extremadura. His main research interests include rural tourism, ecotourism, cultural heritage, national identity, international frontiers, water mills, renewable energy, and low-carbon energy transitions. He was a visiting researcher at the Department of Anthropology of the University of Barcelona in Barcelona, Spain, and at the laboratory ART-Dev in Montpellier, France, in 2010. He was a national delegate at the COST Action TU 1401 - "Renewable Energy and Landscape Quality" (2014-2018).
