Joana Farrajota has a degree (2002) and a PhD (2014) in Private Law from NOVA School of Law.
She is an Assistant Professor and vice-dean for research at NOVA School of Law. She is coordinator of the Master in Law and Financial Markets, the result of a partnership between NOVA School of Law and NOVA Information Management School, whose 1st edition opened in September 2015.
As an academic, she has taught several subjects and published on various topics of private law, with a special focus on Contract Law.
She currently teaches Banking Law, Risk Management in Financial Contracts, Introduction to Mediation (all of the Master's Degree) and Law of Obligations.
For her PhD, to which she dedicated herself exclusively between 2007 and 2011, benefiting from a grant from FCT, she specialized in Private Law (thesis - "The Effects of Termination Due to Non-fulfilment of Contract", supervised by Professor Rui Pinto Duarte).
She was founder and co-executive director of the Centre for Parceristics at Nova School of Law and executive coordinator of the Master in Law and Management, Nova School of Law and Nova School of Business & Economics.
Her main practice areas are civil and commercial law.
She is Of Counsel at SRS Advogados, providing legal advice in the areas of Arbitration and Litigation, as well as Banking and Finance.
Between 2011 and 2015, she served as Technical Specialist of the Minister of Agriculture and Sea, as well as assistant to the Secretary of State for Internal Administration. Before dedicating herself exclusively to her PhD, she worked as a lawyer in the Vieira de Almeida e Associados law firm (2002-2007). As a lawyer she advised both national and international clients, in the public and private sectors, on the design of operations, negotiation and drafting of contracts, with particular emphasis on the real estate sector. As a legal consultant, she is consulted on a wide variety of matters of Portuguese law, and also acts as an arbitrator in the resolution of disputes.
She was admitted to the Portuguese Bar Association between 2002 and 2007.
