Israel Guarda completed the degree in History and Archeology at the New University of Lisboa in 2001, working in this field until 2003, mainly in urban contexts. His interest in urban and local history directed him to the MA in Art History, in this university, finished in 2006, seeking to analyze the continuity and change of Lisbon city growth. Following the interest in twenty century urban transformations, in his PhD (Funded by FCT - SFRH / BD / 41625 / 2007), finished in 2016, studied the relationship between space and society in a set of large residential complexes built after second world, analyzing the radical shift in the production of new urban forms. Collaborated in several projects in this research field. In an on-line Data-Base, between 2004-2005, researching primary sources of Lisbon urban planning. In the project: Lisbon Pedestrian Network (EXPL/ATP-EUR/1328/2012 – not funded), within 2012-2015, studying the relationship between the social life of the city and the spatiality within the urban web, with several presentations and articles published. In March 2016, participated in the International Consortium application of the ERA-NET Cofound Smart Urban Futures, with the project: Shared Urban Futures: Just Cities and Democratic Empowerment - Project no. 693443 (not funded). It was the biggest project, not due to the number of international partners involved: Stockholm, Portugal, England and Cyprus, but also for the number of City councils involved of the Lisbon region. Seeking to integrate spatial analysis with the humanities, attended several formation and training workshops. In 2012, Workshop of Syntactic Analysis of lines of movement and walkability Accessibility, by the Faculty of Architecture from the Technical University of Lisbon. In 2013, Urban Syntax, by Instituto Superior Técnico from the Technical University of Lisbon. In the same institution, in 2015, Workshop of Urban Spatial Analysis: GGIS and 'SpaceSyntaxToolkit'. More recently, is a researcher fellow of the Institut of Art history from the Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas (Novembro 2016 – Julho 2018), in a funded project by the FCT: Printed Photography Image and Propaganda in Portugal (1934-1974) (PTDC/CPC-HAT/4533/2014). In this project I want to highlight my research interest in mapping the photography of house interiors, seeking to understand how diachronically certain social contents were related with the house form and decoration.
