Personal profile

Personal information

I have worked in gas separation applications (natural gas, biogas, flue gas treatment, etc.) for my entire career. I graduated in Chemical Engineering from FCT NOVA in Dec. 1999 and completed my PhD in Chemical Engineering (Unitary Operations and Transport Phenomena) from FCT NOVA in July 2005. In 2004, I concluded the intensive Post-Graduation in Enterprise Management from INDEG(Business School)/ISCTE Executive Education in Lisbon, now the Executive Master in Enterprise Management.

From Aug. 2005 to June 2009, I was a Postdoc Fellow at FCT NOVA. Then, I was awarded a contract as Assistant Researcher in REQUIMTE/FCT NOVA (Ciencia 2008 Program, FCT/MEC) from 2009 to 2014. During this contract, I was absent on 2 maternity leaves (2010; 2014). These maternities had a profound impact on my productivity between 2012-2014. Family, ambition and dreams grew up together!

In 2015, I was awarded with an FCT Investigator (IF 2014) 5-year contract. Since 2020, I am Assistant Professor at FCT NOVA, integrated member of the Research Unit LAQV-REQUIMTE, and work in Adsorption Technology & Process Engineering at the research group of (Bio)Chemical Process Engineering. I work on sustainable adsorption separation processes for a low-carbon economy, lately more on adsorbents development and densification for those purposes, and actively strive to pursue Excellency investing in training activities and career development.

Impact

I published 70 papers in peer-reviewed journals - 46 articles and 7 conference abstracts in Scopus (21 in the last 5 years, 17 as corresponding author), 14 meetings articles with copyright, 1 in SPQ bulletin, 1 in Advances and Engineering magazine, and 4 invited book chapters. The major area of publication is Chemical Engineering.

In Scopus, my h-index is 18 and I have attracted about 926 citations (i10-index = 29; 1241 citations on Google Scholar). On WOS (search for AUTHOR: esteves iaac* OR AUTHOR ID: 0000-0002-2242-6016), the average citation per item is 19.6 with 12% of self-citations. About 60% of the published papers are quartile Q1 Chemical Engineering journals; the rest is multidisciplinary. I have 117 meeting communications (50% oral), 84 of them after PhD (43 as lead author). I received 3 best poster awards from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), the European Membrane Society (EMS) and the Int. Adsorption Society (IAS). Since 2009, I referee papers for well-recognized international journals according to the JCR, juried theses, supervise students and fellowships. My lab is within the Research Group Bio(chemical) Process Engineering of LAQV-REQUIMTE. I have been PI of 5 projects and a team member of other 6 (> 780k€). I also hold collaborations with industry and research centres. Full biography disclosed at:
