Helena Maria Madureira e Castro Vasques de Carvalho

Helena Vasques de Carvalho is an Assistant Professor at Universidade de Évora, Music Department and researcher at INET-md (Universidade Nova). She was the coordinator of the Music Department at ISEIT - PIAGET Institute in Almada, Lisbon . Helena holds a PhD in Sociology of Art - "Performing artists and professional careers" from ISCTE – Lisbon, Portugal. Her major research field relates to artists´ professions and market economy, vocational and professional development and performing arts in the creative agenda.

Helena is the president of the Portuguese Cultural Diversity Coalition (UNESCO 2005) and has worked with artists issues since 2005. Qualified to Masters of Music (MM) in Piano Performance from the University of Tennessee, USA, and Diploma from the Lisbon Conservatory, Portugal, Helena Vasques is also an accomplished musician and pianist. She played frequently with Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa and Orquestra Gulbenkian as orchestra pianist and was involved in many chamber music groups.

She has been invited as observer at the Intergovernemental Sessions of UNESCO, Cultural Diversity since 2017; as a IAFOR review Committee since 2017 and Fullbright jury for music grants since 2019.  She was a key speaker at the 7th World Summit on Arts and Culture - IFACCA, Malta 2016, http://2016.artsummit.org/programme/speakers/#Vasques ,

She is the national representative of ABRSM - Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music, since 2017.
