Helena Vasques de Carvalho is Head of Music Department at ISEIT - PIAGET Institute in Almada, Lisbon and a researcher at INET-md (Universidade Nova). Helena holds a PhD in Sociology of Art - "Performing artists and professional careers" from ISCTE – Lisbon, Portugal. Her major research field relates to artists´ professions and market economy, vocational and professional development and performing arts in the creative agenda. Helena is the president of the Portuguese Cultural Diversity Coalition (UNESCO 2005) and has worked with artists issues since 2005. Qualified to Masters of Music (MM) in Piano Performance from the University of Tennessee, USA, and Diploma from the Lisbon Conservatory, Portugal, Helena Vasques is also an accomplished musician and pianist. She played frequently with Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa and Orquestra Gulbenkian as orchestra pianist and was involved in many chamber music groups. She has been a lecturer at College level for about thirteen years. Among other invitations, she was a key speaker at the 7th World Summit on Arts and Culture - IFACCA, Malta 2016, http://2016.artsummit.org/programme/speakers/#Vasques ,
a co-relator to the UNESCO Report on Cultural Diversity 2016 and invited to the UNESCO XI nd XII sessions on Cultural Diversity as well.
She is the national representative of ABRSM since 2017.
