Filomena Silvano

In the year in which she finished her degree in Anthropology (1982) she was selected to join the research team of the project "Espace et Développement : spatial development and regional identities in Portugal". This fact has significantly determined her career, on the one hand because it allowed her to join an international research team at a time when this possibility was very limited in Portugal, and, on the other, because it determined her initial area of specialization, the Anthropology of Space. Her interests, which relate the issues of collective and individual identities with the study of space, habitat, migrations and, more recently, objects, expressive culture, consumption, dress and fashion, have been maintained over time and have been the object of work in the framework of various research projects. He has collaborated with directors João Pedro Rodrigues and João Rui Guerra da Mata. She did ethnography in the atelier of fashion designer Filipe Faísca. She is the author of the books "Territórios da Identidade", "Antropologia do Espaço", "De casa em casa: sobre um encontro entre etnografia e cinema", "Antropologia da Moda" and "Antropologia da vida material: escritos sobre espaços, coisas e pessoas ".
