Personal information

I’m an Art Historian specialized in Classical and Late Antique Art, committed to the Digital Art History and engaged in researching, teaching and displaying information to both an academic public and general audience. Member of the History of Art Institute of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Nova University, Lisbon (FCSH-NOVA).

I’m a FCT (Portuguese National Funding Agency for Science, Research and Technology) postdoctoral fellow and my project is: “Decor in Antiquity in Western Hispania (1st c to 8th c CE) - Sense(s) and Performances: architectural sculpture, mosaics and painting. Supervisor: Justino Maciel ( FCSH-NOVA); Co-supervisors: Patrízio Pensabene (La Sapienza , University of Rome), Alexandra Dardenay (Lecturer in History of Ancient Art and Archaeology at the University of Toulouse, Jean Jaurès). Advisor: Will Wootton (Senior Lecturer in Roman Art) .

 I hold a degree in History (1987, FCSH-NOVA), a master in History of Late Antique Art (2007, FCSH-NOVA) and a PhD in History of Late Antique Art (2011, FCSH-NOVA) with a thesis on capitals found in current Portuguese territory.

I was a History teacher at the Secondary school from 1988 to 2010.  In 2008 I  lectured for a semester at the History of Art Department of the FCSH-NOVA and from 2010 until 2016 I was a professor at the same department teaching and supervising undergraduate and graduate students.  Together we developed the first Encontrharte (History of Art Meetings), the opusmusiuum: http://www.fcsh.unl.pt/cadeiras/opusmusiuum/, a project on Roman mosaics in Portugal and designed an entrepreneurship project: Findhart : https://prezi.com/bkwwahakstrt/projecto-de-negocio/.

I have participated in an ERASMUS and ERASMUS + Mobility in Italy, Spain and Japan. As a member of the AIA (Archaeological Institute of America) I lectured in the US in 2015 and was a Samuel S. Kress Lecturer for the year 2018/2019 in Canada and the US. I was a Visiting Researcher Associate at King’s College, London, in 2017 and a Visiting Scholar at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville in April 2019.
