Alfredo de Sousa was the founder of the Faculdade de Economia, Universidade Nova de Lisboa and an influential economist.
Born in 1931, Alfredo de Sousa graduated from ‘Instituto Superior de Ciências Económicas e Financeiras’ being recognized as the best student of his year. He undertook his PhD at the University of Paris and joined the university as an associate professor, publishing 15 articles and 14 reviews during that period.
From 1972 to 1994 he lectured at the most notable institutions of Economics and Management in Lisbon. Alfredo de Sousa is referred as a unique personality by his peers, he was also actively engaged in politics and consultant projects.
In 1977 he founded the Faculdade de Economia of Universidade Nova de Lisboa and was Dean and Professor. In 1980 he launched the first PhD in Economics at the institution and the leading MBA program in Portugal.
His critical and innovative approach to education shaped the Nova School of Business and Economics' beliefs. His vision unquestionably changed the course of Economics and Management education in Portugal.
