Alexandra S. Simões completed her PhD in Biology in 2011 by Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, the Master in Medical Microbiology in 2006 by Instituto de Higiene e Medicina Tropical, Universidade Nova de Lisboa and the "Licenciatura"-four years degree in Biotecnology of Natural Products in 2003 by Universidade Independente.
Alexandra S. Simões is author/co-author of 21 peer reviewed publications (11 as first author), 3 papers in periodicals without referees (2 as first author), and several oral communications and posters in national and international scientific meetings. Participated as team member in various research projects in the areas of epidemiology of antibiotic resistant bacteria, vaccine impact, and prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections; co-supervised postgraduate students and has teaching assistant in Postgraduate Courses.
Alexandra S. Simões main areas of interest are: (i) Healthcare-associated infection and Antibiotic Resistance Prevention and Control, with knowledge on management, prevention and control of healthcare associated infection and antibiotic resistance infections, and experience in the implementation on Antibiotic Stewardship Programs; (ii) Microbiology and Molecular Biology skills, with knowledge of molecular biology, epidemiology and microbiology techniques to isolate and type human pathogenic bacteria. Alexandra S. Simões has skills on Project Management, with knowledge on management and communication of research projects: write of proposals, preparation of periodic technical and financial reports, budget management, communication and dissemination of scientific results and organization of scientific events.
