To carry out innovative research and advanced education and training towards a better assessment of genetics as a determinant of health (interaction between genes, environmental stress and disease causation) allowing more accurate disease prediction and prevention as well as more effective therapeutic interventions.
Interdisciplinary R&D activities use genomic and post-genomic methodologies to study the molecular, biochemical and cellular aspects of human genetic disorders and environmental stress through four interrelated approaches (i) exposure assessment and biological responses to stressors, (ii) variability in gene expression and regulation in the disease process and (iii) evaluation and development of toxicogenomic and toxicoproteomic biomarkers.
The strategic goals are achieved through translational projects allowing the consolidation of an enlarged and efficient research network through the several specific know-how of the Labs
