Profile Information

The Center for Advanced Studies in Management and Economics (CEFAGE) was created in 2006, with the aim of promoting research in the areas of Management and Economics. Since 2009, CEFAGE is funded by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT) and, in its first evaluation, achieved the highest FCT grade: "Excellent". In 2014, it was evaluated as “Very Good” by the FCT panel. CEFAGE has a main office at the University of Évora and branches at the University of Algarve, University of Beira Interior and Faculty of Sciences and Technology at the NOVA University of Lisbon, established in late 2013.

In the period between 2018 and 2022, the two main goals of CEFAGE are to promote the production and diffusion of high-quality research in Economics and Management and to educate PhD students in Economics and Management, providing them with an education that combines academic rigor with the excitement of discovery associated with doing research.

CEFAGE’s research activities are currently organized in 4 research groups (Strategy, Entrepreneurship & OperationsFinanceIndustrial, Labor & Spatial EconomicsMacroeconomics, Growth & Development) which are defined according to our main areas of research, and 4 thematic strands (TourismAgrifood & ForestryEducation & HealthSustainability & Performance) which are transversal to the various research groups.

CEFAGE-FCT/UNL branch activity has been focused, mainly, in three main topics: Competition Policy (Partial Horizontal Acquisitions, Bundling, Mergers), Regulation in Telecoms, Economics and Management of Sustainability.
