Stephanie Marie Coo, Assistant Professor with the Department of History of the Ateneo de Manila University and currently a postdoctoral Marie Curie fellow at the NOVA School of Law in Lisbon, Portugal, and the University of Granada, in Granada, Spain, was awarded the prestigious International Best Book Prize 2021 in Humanities, English Language Edition, for her book entitled “Clothing the Colony: Nineteenth-Century Philippine Sartorial Culture, 1820–1896.".

Out of the total 497 books that were submitted, 247 were from the humanities section and the only one from Asia to be shortlisted. Professor Coo’s book was awarded under the International Convention of Asian Scholars (ICAS), a biennial meeting platform of the International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS) initiative, a consortium of universities hosted by Leiden University in the Netherlands that connects scholars, academic practitioners, and institutions throughout the world to discuss and exchange knowledge and ideas about Asia and Asian Studies in a multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral context.
