Entre 1831 e 1833, D. Maria II e a sua madrasta, D. Amélia de Leuchtenberg viveram uma temporada em Paris, após a abdicação de D. Pedro, I imperador do Brasil. Grande parte desse período foi vivido sem a presença do ex-imperador. D. Maria estava rodeada de poucos membros da corte, nomeadamente da sua preceptora e dama camarista, D. Leonor da Câmara. Porém, existia um largo grupo de senhoras portuguesas, liberais, exiladas também em Paris, que constituíam uma corte informal, que aguardavam nessa cidade a vitória liberal, preconizada pelos seus maridos, pais, irmãos e filhos. Importa identificar estas senhoras e compreender o seu papel no apoio à causa constitucional e da rainha D. Maria II.Entre 1831 et 1833, D. Maria II et sa belle-mère, D. Amélia de Leuchtenberg, ont vécu une période à Paris, après l'abdication de Dom Pedro, Ier empereur du Brésil. Une grande partie de cette période s'est déroulée sans la présence de l'ancien empereur. Maria est entourée de quelques membres de la cour, notamment de sa préceptrice et dame d'honneur, Leonor da Câmara. Cependant, il y avait un grand groupe de dames libérales portugaises, également en exil à Paris, qui constituaient une cour informelle, et qui attendaient la victoire libérale à Paris, telle que préconisée par leurs maris, pères, frères et fils. Il est important d'identifier ces dames et de comprendre leur rôle dans le soutien à la cause constitutionnelle et à la reine D. Maria II.
