Lecture - Building bridges: from debate to an equitable and effective stewardship of marine genetic resources in the BBNJ negotiations?

Abstract - The recent stalling of the UN negotiations for the two thirds of the ocean that lie beyond national boundaries highlighted the multifaceted role of science in international negotiations and the critical need to amplify diverse voices in reaching an equitable outcome. This presentation will explore (i) the role of science diplomacy in building bridges in the negotiations; (ii) challenges and opportunities for advancing equity in the global ocean commons; and (iii) ideas to support the conclusion of negotiations for an effective and equitable outcome.
