Description
This paper investigates the production of processionaries at Aveiro's scriptorium in fifteenth-century Portugal by addressing the following questions: How were liturgical practice and a corpus of liturgical books constructed in a new community in the fifteenth century that had to build conventual buildings, the church, and its interior environment, but also create a scriptorium where the sisters copied liturgical manuscripts for their use? Moreover, did this have a tangible influence on the Observance Reformation and its desire to impose stricter controls on Dominican convents? By cross-referencing the ancient practices of processions with living practices in two Dominican communities in Prague, one can see how these have changed over time in terms of historical itineraries, liturgical books, and candles.
