Description
As part of CICS.NOVA Social Sciences Laboratories, the seminar series "Ethics and Responsibilities in Qualitative Research" aims to discuss ethical issues in qualitative research. The choice of qualitative methodologies involves direct and deep interaction with people, seeking to understand their experiences, perspectives, and realities. The close relationships that develop in this type of research require special sensitivity to ensure the respect, dignity, and protection of the participants involved, as well as the researchers themselves. When discussing ethical issues, we will address topics such as obtaining informed consent from participants, ways to preserve confidentiality, safeguarding privacy, and minimizing any potential economic, labor, physical, emotional, or psychological harm arising from the process. Ethics in qualitative research is also related to issues such as critically reflecting on the power of the researcher, fair representation of collected data, careful consideration of the ethical implications of our analyses, and what happens after data collection, among other things. By recognizing and addressing these issues, we promote the integrity and quality of qualitative research, building an enriched and responsible body of knowledge.CICS.NOVA Social Sciences Laboratories aim to create regular spaces for scientific training and reflection. These are thought of as collective work spaces led by specialists in certain methodologies or research areas. They have a practical and eminently methodological dimension, aimed at operationalizing research in its different stages, approaches and methodological techniques. As such, although open to a diverse audience, they are especially aimed at students from different educational cycles. They intend, in some way, to respond to the desires for specific training expressed by researchers or students.
